Westworld, Stranger Things Among Top 2017 Emmy Nominees
With Game of Thrones ineligible this year, another series could dominate the 2017 Emmy Awards.
According to Variety, HBO's Westworld received 22 nominations, tying it with Saturday Night Live for the most nominations. Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood both received acting nods. Westworld was a huge hit during its first season, averaging 12 million viewers per episode across all of HBO's platforms, the most ever for a freshman series on the cable network. It's been renewed for a second season, but no premiere date has been set.
Meanwhile, the Netflix breakout Stranger Things garnered 18 nominations for its first season. The second season will arrive on Oct. 27.
Game of Thrones isn't eligible this year because of its mid-summer release date. It was the most-nominated show last year, and it received a record-tying 12 awards, making it the most decorated scripted show in Emmy history.
