Flatliners Reboot Gets An Eerie Trailer

The first trailer for the upcoming Flatliners remake is here. The remake, which will star Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, Kiersey Clemons, and the original film's Kiefer Sutherland, tells the story of a group of medical students who decide to try briefly dying before being resurrected– flatlining– but end up experiencing unexpected negative effects.

"Do you have plans tonight?" Page's Courtney asks Norton's Jamie at the start of the trailer. "Do you want to have fun with me later?" Courtney quickly shows that the fun she is talking about isn't what you'd expect, as she brings Jamie into an underground basement, where she tells him that she wants him to stop her heart. "You give it one minute, then you bring me back," she says.

Even though Jamie says he wants it all to be a joke, Courtney is serious, and she briefly dies before being woken back up. "What happens to us after we die?" she questions. "The only way to find out is to see for ourselves. We could document that experience."

The rest of her friends, who include Dobrev's Marlo and Clemons' Sophia, are curious about what Courtney saw when she died, and they get even more enthralled when they realize that she has abilities she didn't have before. With the help of Luna's Ray, the group keeps trying to one-up each other with the amount of time that they are out, eventually staying dead for five and even seven minutes. "It's a good day to die," Jamie says.

However, they quickly start to realize that dying has terrifying effects, as they start to see disturbing visions in real life as well. "Maybe we opened a door," Jamie says. Whatever is coming seems to have a connection to Courtney, who says that they are being hunted because of something she did. "I should have told you this all wasn't about science or discovery," she says.

Flatliners, directed by Mr. Robot's Niels Arden based on a script from Source Code's Ben Ripley, will be released on Sept. 29. While we wait, see some of the other movie releases you won't want to miss this year.
