The Dark Tower Trailer Is Finally Here

The wait is over: the first official trailer for The Dark Tower is finally here. A sequel to the series of Stephen King novels of the same name, The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba as the famed gunslinger Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as his nemesis, the Man in Black.

"For thousands of generations the gunslingers were knights," Elba's Roland starts the trailer. "Sworn to protect us from the coming of the dark." It then shows Tom Taylor's Jake, a young boy who dreams of the other world where Roland and the Man in Black's conflict lives. "There's another world out there," he says. "I know there is." His theory is proven right when he finds the other land, immediately running into Roland. "Why does the Man in Black want to destroy the Tower?" Jake asks. "The Tower protects both our worlds," Roland responds. "If it falls, hell will be unleashed."

The trailer also gives a glimpse at McConaughey's terrifying villain, who seems to be hellbent on completing his mission. "You can't stop what's coming," he says ominously. "Death always wins." Although Jake and Roland make an impressive team, the Man in Black warns that all who walk with Roland die by his hand. However, it looks like Roland is up to the task of protecting Jake, with the trailer ending on a stunt that easily shows his gunslinging prowess.

Here is the synopsis for The Dark Tower: "There are other worlds than these. Stephen King's The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world's most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim, also known as the Man in Black (McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black."

The trailer teases the epic and intense film that fans have been waiting years for, and should definitely get a lot of people excited for its August 4 release. Katheryn Winnick, Abbey Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Nicholas Hamilton, Claudia Kim, Fran Kranz, Alex McGregor, and Jose Zuniga also star in the movie, which was directed by Nikolaj Arcel based on a script from Arcel, Akiva Goldsman, Anders Thomas Jensen, and Jeff Pinkner. While we wait for the film to be released, plan your summer schedule by seeing all of the movies that will blow you away in the next few months.
