Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Release Date, Story Details Revealed

Prepare your wallets and your gaming system of choice. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is coming this fall.

Capcom hit fans with a double whammy, announcing the release date for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and unveiled juicy story details through an all-new trailer. The latest entry in the crossover fighting franchise will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 19. Fans can get their hands on a slew of new playable characters from both Capcom and Marvel's extended universes.

Joining the tag team roster are Capcom's Chun-Li from Streetfighter, Chris Redfield from Resident Evil, and Strider Hiryu from, well, Strider. Four Marvel heroes and one super-villian will jump into the 2-vs-2 mix: the Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, and the insane robot menace Ultron.

But don't think that Capcom is going without its own baddie. Mega Man X antagonist Sigma will round out the battle brigade. However, he'll only be available through the game's post-launch Character Pass DLC, which will include six extra fighters in total.

The new-to-the-franchise characters will fight alongside Captain America, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Mega Man X, Darkstalkers' Morrigan, and Street Fighter's Ryu, all of which were confirmed at last year's PlayStation Experience.

Additionally, Capcom revealed the ultimate villain in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite: Ultron Sigma, a hybrid of the most menacing automatons from two opposing teams. Specific details about the hulking character haven't been revealed, but according to Capcom, players will discover more about Ultron Sigma in the game's "cinematic Story Mode." Fans can also explore the game's Arcade, Mission, and Training modes in addition to the wealth of multi-player options available.

And if that wasn't enough, Capcom lifted the veil on the first trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite (above). The clip promises that the Capcom and Marvel universes "merge to form our menacing new villain," which is, of course, the beastly Ultron Sigma. "A new universe shall be forged," Sigma states. "Heroes of both dimensions, welcome to ours." Following Sigma's proclamation, the trailer unravels into full-throttle fighting sequences featuring plenty of familiar faces.

According to PlayStation, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite gets its name from a staple in the Marvel universe: the Infinity Stones. "[The] unique and game-changing Infinity Stones can be implemented into players' strategies as a way to influence the outcome of battle. Each Infinity Stone provides a unique advantage to the player and represents a different aspect of the universe: power, space, time, reality, soul, and mind," the company explained.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is available for pre-order at three different price points based on edition level. The standard game is set at $59.99, and customers who order ahead of time will receive Warrior Thor and Evil Ryu premium costumes. A deluxe edition of the game goes for $89.99 and includes the "Warrior Thor" and "Evil Ryu" costumes, "Gladiator Hulk" and "Command Mission X" costumes, and the 2017 Character Pass. Finally, the collector's edition will cost fans $199.99, and it comes bundled with four "interlinking dioramas from TriForce," a set of six LED Infinity Stones, and the deluxe edition of the game.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released on September 19. While we wait to get our hands on it (after deciding which edition to buy), check out the other games we can't wait to play this year.
