Thor: Ragnarok teaser trailer released
It's finally here: our first look at Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok.
The teaser trailer, released early this morning (April 10), finds Chris Hemsworth's hero in quite a lot of trouble in a rock 'n' roll-set space adventure that immediately conjures up images of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy.
The trailer starts with a record scratch moment, with Thor falling from the sky in chains and saying, "Now I know what you're thinking: 'How did this happen?'" It then shows Cate Blanchett's Hela destroying the hero's hammer and declaring that his home planet is dead before unleashing some fiery destruction on Asgard.
The villainness is also responsible for banishing Thor to Sakaar, where he's forced to get a haircut and become a gladiator. The trailer features an early look at the desolate planet while also teasing the role that Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) will play in the hero's journey. "What have you brought today?" Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) asks the warrior. "A contender," she responds.
The most exciting moment of the trailer comes during the quick glimpse at the highly anticipated battle between Thor and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), during which the hero excitedly announces to a stadium of very confused onlookers, "We know each other, he's a friend from work!" (Because of course he says that.) While the footage doesn't give away the fight's big moments, it does feature a tease of the two jumping at each other in what is sure to be an epic battle.
The trailer also features a glimpse at the return of Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who will make his first appearance in a Marvel movie since 2013's Thor: The Dark World. The trickster, whose lax rule is responsible for the ascension of Hela (Cate Blanchett), seems none too happy about his situation, and he definitely looks ready to fight back.
The colorful, action-heavy trailer hints at a much different Thor movie than what we've seen in the past, which is something that Waititi has teased on multiple occasions. (It's also set to Led Zeppelin, which is pretty awesome.) The film is due out on Nov. 3. In the meantime, find out why the movie will be better than you think.
