New Trailer For The Mummy Unwrapped

You may need your mummy after watching this spooky new trailer.

Universal Pictures unveiled the latest look at The Mummy, the Alex Kurtzman-directed refresh of the classic action-adventure franchise.

Filled to the brim with action, the new trailer unwraps what fans have been teased with in the past. It all starts when the power-hungry Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella), with her dual irises and marked-up face, is buried alive inside a sarcophagus to end her reign of terror. Navy SEAL Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) discovers Ahmanet's tomb, but soon realizes the troubles that follow—like waking up in a plastic body bag at the morgue—are partially his fault.

Watch Cruise discover Princess Ahmanet's power in the trailer above.

The new clip also features additional glimpses at one pivotal scene: the cargo plane crash. This moment was the primary focus of the first The Mummy trailer, which showed a swarm of birds ripping the plane apart mid-air, sending Morton and the coffin carrying Prince Ahmanet tumbling to the ground.

While a recent poster hinted at Boutella's role as Ahmanet, the new trailer dives deep into her backstory and her unbreakable strength. The promised queen ravages cities the world 'round, destroying buildings and sending her legion of undead skeletons after anyone who challenges her authority. Set to "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones, the latest look at The Mummy is pretty intense.

Check out the full synopsis for The Mummy (via ScreenCrush): "Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters."

The Mummy is set for release on June 9, and is the first installment in the Universal Monsters movie world, helmed by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. While we wait to get totally freaked by the reboot, check out some of the other remakes we're looking forward to seeing.
