Watch the violent new American Gods trailer

There's a whole lot of blood in the newest trailer for the Starz series American Gods. The show, from Hannibal and Pushing Daisies showrunner Bryan Fuller, stars Ricky Whittle (The 100) as Shadow Moon, a recently released prison convict who finds himself working with a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), who he later finds out is actually the Greek god Odin. Shadow becomes entangled in a war between the ancient gods and the gods of new American obsessions like media, celebrity, and technology.

The new trailer highlights that the war will get pretty violent pretty quickly, getting Shadow stuck in what his wife Laura (Emily Browning) calls "some pretty weird sh–." The trailer mostly focuses on Shadow and Mr. Wednesday, although it also features a healthy dose of Kristin Chenoweth's Easter and Peter Stormare's Czernobog, as well as the start of an epic-looking action scene starring Pablo Schreiber's Mad Sweeney. "Things are never going back to the way that they were," the trailer ominously teases.

The show, based on the 2001 Neil Gaiman novel of the same name, also stars Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy (aka the African trickster God Anansi), Gillian Anderson as the new god Media, and Crispin Glover as Mr. World. Bruce Langley, Yetide Badaki, Jonathan Tucker, Cloris Leachman, Chris Obi, Demore Barnes, Corbin Bernsen, and Mousa Kraish will also appear. Gaiman, who also wrote Stardust, Coraline, and the Sandman comics, will also executive produce the series.

The violent and epic new footage just reinforces our idea that the show will blow everyone away. You can endlessly rewatch the trailer above as we wait for American Gods to premiere on April 30.
