New Wonder Woman trailer teases Diana's origins

The latest look at the upcoming Wonder Woman standalone dives deep into the titular character's backstory, setting up the skeleton for what's likely going to be one epic superhero flick.

Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, shared the newest trailer on her Twitter account, with the caption, "Welcome to Themyscria. I am proud to present the new trailer for [Wonder Woman]!" Additionally, the clip was shown during the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards (where Gadot and her costar Chris Pine made an appearance) on Saturday night, and closely piggybacks another Gadot-released glimpse at Diana Prince: the film's newest promo poster.

The third trailer fans have received so far, this one takes viewers into the rich history of Diana, Princess of the Amazons, and how she came to be the super-smart and super-powered force of good we know and love. But it also features a key element of the film's plot: Diana must "never know the truth about what she is."

Amongst throttle action sequences in which Diana's aunt, Antiope (Robin Wright), trains her with vigor and valor alongside the Amazons, the video shows the super-heroine's mystical bracelets and features a powerful line. "I am Diana of Themyscira, daughter of Hippolyta," Gadot's Wonder Woman says. "In the name of all that is good, your wrath upon this world is over." Did anyone else get chills, or was that just us?

Check out the third official trailer above, and read the full synopsis for Wonder Woman below:

"Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers… and her true destiny."

Wonder Woman flies into theaters on June 2. While you pass the time before the flick's summer release, check out the dark history behind the eponymous character.
