Deadpool Director To Develop Sonic The Hedgehog Movie

It didn't take Deadpool director Tim Miller long to find a new gig.

Just a few weeks after walking away from the sequel due to creative differences (reportedly with Ryan Reynolds), Miller has signed on to executive produce a movie based on the Sega video game franchise Sonic the Hedgehog. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it'll be a family-friendly flick that combines live action with CG animation.

Miller's longtime collaborator Jeff Fowler will direct, and the pair have had success before. They received an Oscar nomination in 2005 for their animated short Gopher Broke.

Tim Miller said he's excited to have Fowler on board. "Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts," he said. "The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character."

The script will be written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, the team behind Golan the InsatiableNot much is known about the plot of the movie, but it will likely revolve around Sonic, his friends Tails and Knuckles, and the evil Doctor Robotnik. In the video game series, Robotnik often attempts to convert adorable animals into dangerous robots.

Meanwhile, Deadpool 2 is still in need of a director. Although fans launched a petition to have Quentin Tarantino take over, Variety reports that John Wick director David Leitch is the frontrunner.

While we wait for more news about both movies, check out Sonic's first video game appearance that you probably missed.
