Supergirl To Introduce Superman In Season 2

After Superman's silhouetted cameo in season one of Supergirl, the Man of Steel will return for season two. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kal-El himself will head to National City to visit his cousin Kara Zor-El early in Supergirl's next season, and it sounds like he'll play a much more prominent role this time around.

In the beginning of the series, a young Kara is sent away from an exploding Krypton. Unfortunately, the planet's destruction pushes her way off course and into the Phantom Zone, delaying her arrival on Earth by a few decades. By this point, Kal-El has already landed on Earth, been raised by the Kents, and become Superman. Finding out Kara is his cousin, Superman sets her up with a loving family so she can live her own life and have a decent upbringing just as he did.

"Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl," enthused executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. "Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!"

Finally, one of these extended universe TV shows has stopped beating around the bush and will bring one of the comic industry's top names to the TV screen. You don't see the Avengers appearing in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Batman on Arrow (despite major storylines concerning Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins). It took Smallville pretty much 10 seasons for Clark Kent to finally don the whole Superman suit and fly through the sky, so Kal-El will be a welcome addition to season two. It can get tiresome hearing characters constantly refer to the awesome likes of Batman, Superman, or the Avengers without ever really featuring them.

No one has yet been announced to play Clark Kent (and don Superman's blue spandex and red boots). While no season two premiere date has been set, we expect Supergirl will return to the CW in the fall of 2016.
