The Purge TV Series Trailer Brings The Chaos To Your Home

Brace yourselves — The Purge is coming into your home.

USA has released the first teaser for its television series based on The Purge film franchise, and you can see it for yourself up above.

Instead of being billed as a diverting, hour-long, action-horror show, The Purge is getting hyped here as nothing less than "a ten episode television event". It's a bold stance to take, even though we're not sure just how revelatory this premise can really be now that we're four movies deep and five years into the franchise.

Being honest, there's not a lot on display here in this teaser that looks too terribly surprising, considering what we already know about The Purge's mythology at this point.

While we know that the show will cover a lot more story than the events of Purge Night alone, that's not at all clear from this trailer, which looks like it could just as easily be taken from any one of the movies.

Despite this, there's still a lot of unique qualities to look forward to in the longer, slower series, which will reportedly focus on a number of different characters, anthology-style, as the time of the Purge approaches.

According to series creator James DeMonaco, the series will go deeper into peoples' motivations for purging than any of the movies have time for.

"What might be interesting in a TV show," DeMonaco said, speaking in an interview with ScreenCrush. "Is with a flashback narrative, if you start on Purge Night but you go back to show how people have gotten to where they are."

"Let's show everything that's led up to this moment of a husband trying to kill a wife, the cheating or the accusations of cheating or money problems," DeMonaco continued. "It will be interesting to show those arcs, those dramatic and complex arcs that get people to where they pick up a gun or a knife and kill someone else."

Presumably, we'll get to see more of that up close and personal material as The Purge TV series gets closer to its premiere date.

Until then, you can get your violent fix in via the big screen with The First Purge, set to hit theaters on July 4.
