Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Unleashes Volcanic New Poster

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is going to be one explosive movie — literally.

Hours ahead of Universal Pictures' planned release of a second trailer for the Jurassic World sequel, the studio treated fans to a striking new poster.

The one-sheet features Chris Pratt's Owen Grady, Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing, and newcomer Justice Smith's Franklin Webb crouching behind one of the now-closed park's giant plexiglass orbs as a Tyrannosaurus rex roars in the foreground. (We guess the only exception to the "keep your hands and feet inside the Gyrosphere at all times" rule is when you're hiding from a gargantuan dinosaur that could, without warning, rip into your body and chomp your bones to a fine powder.)

Another standout element of the poster is the volcano in the background, shown spewing out hot lava and plumes of thick, dark smoke. While visually impactful on its own, serving as a signal of danger for the humans and evidence that Jurassic World has well and truly spiraled into complete chaos, the erupting volcano plays a major part in the narrative of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The whole reason why Owen and Claire return to the park on Isla Nublar after the dramatic fallout seen in the original Jurassic World film is because the volcano has erupted, threatening to kill off every last one of the dinosaurs. With Franklin, a former Jurassic World IT technician and the current systems analyst for the Dinosaur Protection Group, in tow, Owen and Claire attempt to evacuate the man-made creatures before it's too late.

Check out the poster below.

Directed by J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls, The Impossible) from a script by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly (Jurassic World), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stars B. D. Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, the former head geneticist of Jurassic World and the original Jurassic Park; James Cromwell as Benjamin Lockwood; Ted Levine as Ken Wheatley; and Daniella Pineda as Zia Rodriguez, a paleo-veterinarian and member of the Dinosaur Protection Group. Topping off the cast are Jeff Goldblum, who reprises his Jurassic Park franchise role as chaos theory expert Dr. Ian Malcolm, as well as Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Isabella Sermon, Kevin Layne, and Geraldine Chaplin.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is due out on June 22.
