Jordan Peele Wins Best Original Screenplay Oscar For Get Out

Get Out is now an Oscar winning movie. Jordan Peele took home the trophy for Best Original Screenplay for the socially conscious thriller film at the Academy Awards on Sunday night, beating out The Big Sick (Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon), Lady Bird (Greta Gerwig), The Shape of Water (Guillermo del Toro and Vanessa Taylor)and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Martin McDonagh).

Daniel Kaluuya starred in Get Out, which also featured Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Stephen Root, Catherine Keener, Caleb Landry Jones, Lakeith Stanfield, Betty Gabriel, and Lil Rel Howery. The movie was beloved by critics and audiences alike, earning a 99 percent critics score and an 87 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Get Out, which was written and directed by Peele, was a surprise box office hit when it debuted last February, earning $255 million worldwide, including $176 million domestic. This makes it the third highest grossing R-rated horror movie of all time. The movie was made on just a $4.5 million budget. (via Box Office Mojo)

Get Out is also nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director for Peele, and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Kaluuya. The movie also holds two Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy and Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for Kaluuya.
