Doug Jones Cast In What We Do In The Shadows Pilot

When it comes to creating a perfect cast of vampires, creature actor Doug Jones should be at the top of your list.

And it seems he was the number-one pick for FX, as he just landed a role in the network's half-hour comedy pilot What We Do in the Shadows (via Variety). Details on Jones' character are being kept under lock and key for now, but the outlet notes that his role will potentially be a recurring one should the pilot be ordered to series.

Three other actors were added to the pilot cast alongside Jones: Lady Bird and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising breakout Beanie Feldstein, Lady Bird and Limitless star Jake McDorman, and Better Call Saul and The Office actor Mark Proksch. Character specifics weren't revealed for this trio either, though we expect to hear new information in the near future.

Based on Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi's 2014 horror mockumentary film of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows is set to focus on a group of vampires living (and avoiding sunlight) together in Wellington, New Zealand. The original movie starred Waititi as the persnickety house leader Viago, a 379-year-old bloodsucker; Jonathan Brugh as the rebellious and slightly-off-the-rails Deacon, whose 183 years of age make him seem like the "wild child" of the bunch; and Ben Fransham as the introverted Petyr, an 8,000-year-old vampire who more closely resembles Nosferatu with each passing day. The television adaptation will feature new actors in the same general roles, with names and details altered.

Here's the series confirmed roster: Kayvan Novak stars as Nandor, the ringleader of the bunch; Matt Berry plays Lazslo, the vampire who's the "goofiest in the house," the type who gets his kicks turning into a bat and flying into the wall at random times; and Natasia Demetriou is attached as Nadja, a head-strong female vampire. Harvey Guillen also stars, though concrete information on his character hasn't been revealed at the time of writing. Rumor has it that he'll be playing Nandor's assistant.

Waititi is on board to co-write, co-direct, and co-star in the pilot. Jemaine Clement, who portrayed the 862-year-old ex-tyrant Vladislav in the What We Do in the Shadows film, will write. Scott Rudin, Paul Simms, Garrett Basch, and Eli Bus serve as executive producers.

Before he appears in the What We Do in the Shadows series, Jones can be seen in CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery, in which he plays Saru, and in Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, where he portrays the amphibian man

What We Do in the Shadows doesn't have a release date as of yet.
