Black Panther's Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed
It doesn't get more perfect than Black Panther. At least according to the upcoming Marvel film's Rotten Tomatoes score, that is.
Black Panther debuted on Rotten Tomatoes at a coveted 100 percent fresh on Tuesday (February 6). The score accounts for 58 positive reviews and zero negative, with the critical consensus arguing that the Ryan Coogler-helmed pic "elevates superhero cinema to thrilling new heights" and tells "one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most absorbing stories," all while "introducing some of its most fully realized characters."
Of course, this flawless score could easily shift. The superhero movie doesn't launch in the U.S. until Friday, February 16, which is still over a week away at the time of writing. The Hollywood Reporter notes that more than 300 reviews are expected to be aggregated through Rotten Tomatoes by that time, and unless Black Panther blows each and every Tomatometer-approved critic out of their popcorn-and-cherry-slushie-covered-seat, the 100 percent approval score will likely drop a bit.
If, however, the aggregated rating remains that same after Black Panther's stateside debut, it will become the first-ever title across both the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Extended Universe to receive a perfect score. Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman out of DC and the Chris Evans-starring Captain America: Civil War out of Marvel came close to such an accomplishment, ranking at 100 percent at the outset before tapering off at 92 percent and 91 percent, respectively.
Black Panther features Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther, Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M'Baku, Sterling K. Brown as N'Jobu, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Michael B. Jordan as Erik "Killmonger" Stevens, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, John Kani as T'Chaka, Nabiyah Be as Tilda Johnson, and Sydelle Noel as Xoliswa. Topping off the cast are Isaach de Bankolé, Connie Chuene, and Atandwa Kani.
The film will hit theaters on February 16.
